Berkeley County,SC : Power outages linger in Berea after car snaps utility pole on August, Tuesday 29th 2017

More 2,000 people in the Berea area lost power Tuesday morning after a car crashed into a utility pole. By noon the number of outages was back below 300.

The SC Highway Patrol reported the occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Smythe Street at Ravenel Street.

Troopers said the roadway was blocked due to that crash.

Initially, Duke Energy reported 342 people were without power in an area between Cedar Lane Road, Parker Road, and West Blue Ridge Drive .

By 8:15 a.m., that number had risen to 2,290 outages in an area that extended farther up Cedar Lane Road to Sulphur Springs Road.

At noon, Duke Energy said power had been restored to all but 226 customers and hoped to have those outages restored by 12:30 p.m.

Power crews at the scene told a FOX Carolina photojournalist that additional resources were being brought in to help with repairs, which would likely continue well past 11 a.m.

There was no word on injuries in the crash.
