De Soto, MO : Mineral Point woman killed in two-car crash on Highway 21 and Amvets Drive on Wednesday afternoon, August 31, 2016

A Mineral Point woman was killed in a two-car crash Wednesday afternoon in De Soto.

The crash happened shortly after 4 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 21 and Amvets Drive, said Sgt. Al Nothum of the Missouri Highway Patrol.

The first vehicle was southbound on Highway 21 when a car in front of it slowed suddenly for a turn. The driver of the first car swerved to avoid a collision and struck a northbound car head-on, the patrol said.

Sharon J. Huff, 58, of Mineral Point in Washington County, was a passenger in the first car. She was taken to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Festus, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car, a 56-year-old Potosi woman, was flown to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis with serious injuries.

The driver of the northbound vehicle, a 55-year-old De Soto woman, also was taken to Barnes-Jewish with serious injuries.

All three women had been wearing seat belts when the crash happened.
