Two children were killed this morning in a fatal motor vehicle accident on the Thruway, just east of Exit 43.
Syracuse-based state police described it as a one-vehicle crash. When troopers arrived, they observed the vehicle overturned and on its side in the righthand lane.
The driver of the vehicle, a male, was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester; police said he was in critical condition. A female passenger was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The children, 9 and 11 years old, were pronounded dead at the scene.
State police said they are looking for a second vehicle that wasn’t involved in the initial accident, but who unknowingly may have hit one of the children. Troopers are looking for a Honda with damage to the vehicle’s undercarriage. That vehicle is leading fluids, police said.
