Police say alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.

Crash: The initial report was of a vehicle that had crashed into a structure, and both the structure and vehicle were on fire, according to 911 radio transmissions. Fire departments from Spring Grove, Dover Township and East Berlin assisted at the scene. The section of the road was closed off until about 10 p.m.
Witnesses said they saw a yellow vehicle — later identified as Shaffer's SUV — burst into flames after it was hit and caused the porch of the home to catch on fire as well.
"The whole van was up in flames," said Megan Myers, of New Salem. Myers was driving on North Lake Road behind the vehicle before it collided with the sedan on East Berlin Road.
