Moxee, WA : Two injured in three-vehicle crash on SR 24 in Moxee Wednesday morning, October 5, 2016
Two people were injured in a three-vehicle crash on State Route 24 in Moxee Wednesday morning.
The crash was reported at 6:41 a.m. at the Beaudry Road intersection about 3 miles east of Yakima, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Troopers said a 2007 Ford Edge SUV driven by Jordan R. Marquez, 20, of Toppenish was heading west on SR-24 when it hit a 2005 Mitsubishi Endeavor that was stopped on the road because of traffic ahead, according to a news release from the patrol. The Endeavor, driven by Ed Garza Jr., 60, of Yakima, was pushed into the eastbound lanes, where it was hit by an eastbound 1996 Ford R10.
The Ford driver, Jonathan M. Contreras Mendoza, 24, of Yakima, was taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. A hospital spokeswoman said she had no patient listed by that name.
Garza, a Herald-Republic circulation employee who was driving a company vehicle, was taken to Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center, where he was treated and released.
Troopers cited Marquez on a charge of following too close, which they identified as the cause of the wreck.
No intoxicants were involved in the crash, and everyone involved was wearing seat belts, according to the patrol.
This report has been updated to correct the placement of the vehicles and drivers involved.
