Albany, OR : Corvallis woman killed after three-vehicle Highway 20 crash on Tuesday night, February 21, 2017
A 48-year-old Corvallis woman has died and a 24-year-old Philomath woman has been hospitalized following a three-vehicle fatal crash Tuesday night on Highway 20, according to Corvallis police.
Authorities are investigating the crash that took place around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 5700 block of Highway 20 between Philomath and Corvallis. The crash involved a Honda Accord, Dodge pickup and Nissan Xterra.
The Corvallis Fire Department extricated the driver of the Honda, a 48-year-old Corvallis woman, and transported her to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. The woman later died from injuries suffered in the crash, Corvallis police said.
The driver of the Xterra, a 24-year-old Philomath woman, also was transported with “significant” injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, according to police. Her condition was not known Wednesday. The driver of the Dodge, a 51-year-old Philomath man, was treated and released from the hospital.
Authorities are withholding the names of those involved in the crash pending notification of next of kin.
In addition to Corvallis police and firefighters, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office accident reconstruction team and Philomath police responded to the crash.
Lt. Cord Wood of the Corvallis Police Department said authorities were investigating the crash to determine the cause and whether alcohol or excessive speed may have been contributing factors.
“We’re still fleshing out exactly what caused the crash,” Wood said. “(Speed) certainly was contributing to the severity of the accident because it was highway speeds, but I don’t have any information that anyone was going excessive speeds.”
