Attleborough, MA : 37-year-old man was dead in a fiery crash along Route 1 on Saturday night August 30th 2014
A 37-year-old man was killed in a fiery crash in Attleborough.
It happened just after 10:30 Saturday night along Route 1.
According to Attleborough police, a Mitsubishi convertible slammed into the back of another car and caught fire.
Witnesses helped put out flames with fire extinguishers from a nearby gas station and may have saved the lives of two others hurt in the crash.
"The car was crushed so bad it was really hard to get the doors open," said witness Tony Scott, who added that car accidents are a frequent occurrence in the area.
Scott and his wife Dorothy were joined by neighbors and people at the gas station to try and douse the flames.
"Anyone would have done the same thing," Dorothy Scott said. "I don't even consider us heroes, we were just helping another life."
The driver of the convertible was pronounced dead at the hospital. His 40-year-old male passenger was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.
The 39-year-old driver of the car struck by the convertible also has serious injuries, police said.
