RED BLUFF, CA : Driver killed in Dairyville crash on State Route 99E in Tehama County on Sunday, 23rd February, 2020

A vehicle collision early Sunday left one dead on State Route 99E in Tehama County.

A 2005 Honda Accord was traveling northbound on 99E approaching Blackberry Avenue around 1 a.m. Sunday, according to a press release issued Monday by the California Highway Patrol. For reasons yet to be determined it drifted off the highway to the east shoulder.

The Honda crashed into a large drainage ditch, causing it to roll over onto its roof, the release said. The car’s engine caught fire with the driver trapped inside, unable to escape.

Emergency personnel and passing motorists attempted to put out the fire using fire extinguishers, but the flames became too intense, the release said. They were unable to free the driver, who was killed.
