San Diego, CA: Driver killed after hitting a light pole near Miramar on Friday, July 17th 2015

A man was killed early Friday in a single-vehicle crash on a freeway connector ramp near Miramar.A caller told the California Highway Patrol that the driver was speeding over 80 miles an hour right before he struck a light pole along the transition from westbound state Route 52 to northbound Interstate 15 around 1:45 a.m., CHP officials said.The impact knocked down power lines and sent live wires onto the roadway.It was not immediately clear if the driver was the vehicle's sole occupant, but no one involved in the crash was taken to a hospital, according to the CHP and the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.The transition from westbound state Route 52 to Interstate 15 was closed following the crash, but was reopened shortly before 4:30 a.m.CHP says the incident is under investigation and the man's identity won't be released until his family is contacted. An autopsy has to be done.
