Lewisville ,AR :11-year-old SWAR child killed in lumber accident on Monday ,june 29th 2015
An ArkLaTex family is mourning the death of an 11-year-old boy following a freak accident over the weekend. The boy was crushed by a load of lumber in Lewisville, Arkansas and now his grieving family doesn't want his death to be in vain.
"Reality hit that he is dead, oh Lord Jesus help me," said the Asunté Robinson's mother Tamika Robinson.
It was understandably difficult for Tamika Robinson to talk with us about the death of her son.
Saturday morning, Asunté and two adult relatives were at Lewisville Wood Products, Inc. trying to get lumber to repair a leaking roof. But, something went wrong.
"He pulled a stick out and the whole bundle just fell on him," says Asunté's father, Ralph Robinson. "His aunt was holding his hand and digging him out. His last words were 'I am alright.'"
Asunté was buried beneath a large pile of lumbar and died at the scene.
Lewisville, Arkansas police officer Cody Hensley was there as little Asunté's body was freed from the debris.
"He was there for about 10 - 15 minutes, we had to use two large fork lifts to lift the wood to extricate the child," recalled Hensley.
It's not uncommon for people to enter the property to collect scrap wood and there is no fence or warning signs posted in the area where the accident happened. Now, Asunté's family says changes must be made.
"It's a hazard, it is a death trap," says Tamika Robinson.
A spokesman for the company told KSLA News 12 that this was a tragic accident and would not comment on any security issues.
"He loved his family, especially his sister. He was just an overall nice kid," said Tamika Robinson.
Funeral services for Asunté is set for July 11 in the Lafayette County Junior High School gym. The family is in the process of setting up an account to help with expenses.
