Two Siskiyou County residents were taken to an Oregon hospital with major injuries Thursday after their car was struck head-on twice in a three-vehicle crash, the California Highway Patrol reported.

A third person was also taken to a Yreka hospital with moderate injuries, the CHP said.

The crash happened shortly before 5 p.m., on Old Highway 99, south of Cram Gulch Road in Siskiyou County, the CHP said.

According to the CHP, Donald Anderson, 43, of Weed, was driving a black 2003 Toyota Solara northbound on Old Highway 99 when the accident happened.

The preliminary investigation shows Anderson's vehicle went into the southbound lane while taking a curve and struck head-on a southbound 1991 Geo Metro driven by a 52-year-old Montague resident, the CHP said.

Anderson's vehicle spun off the road and overturned, the CHP said, adding the Geo Metro spun around and was then facing the wrong way in the southbound lane.

A third vehicle, a 2005 Toyota Tacoma driven by Brenna Owens, 30, of Mount Shasta, was southbound directly behind the Geo Metro and collided head-on with it, the CHP said

The Geo Metro was forced off the road and overturned, the CHP said.

Numerous fire and medical agencies were called to the crash, including two medical helicopters, the CHP said.

The Geo Metro driver as well as two passengers in the car were extricated from it, the CHP said. Their names were not given.

The Geo Metro's driver and a female passenger were flown by helicopter to Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, Oregon, with major injuries, the CHP said.

The other passenger in that car, a male, was taken to Fairchild Medical Center in Yreka with moderate injuries, the CHP said.
