Corpus Christi, TX : Man dies after two vehicle wreck near Robstown early Sunday, February 5, 2017

A man died after the pickup he was driving early Sunday struck a tractor-trailer head-on, according to Texas Department of Public Safety officials.

The collision happened about 2 a.m. after a 23-year-old man drove his 2015 Chevy SIlverado north on the southbound lane of U.S. Highway 77 near Robstown, a DPS news release states.

Abelardo Lopez, of Mission, was driving the pickup and died at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to Christus Spohn Hospital Memorial and is expected to survive.

According to the news release, it is unclear what caused Lopez to drive the wrong way on the highway and troopers are continuing to investigate the wreck.
