Bend, OR : Police ID drivers in fatal crash near Bend on Monday, 26th March 2018
The Oregon State Police have released the names of two drivers involved in a fatal, head-on car crash early Sunday morning on U.S. Highway 97 2 miles north of Bend.
According to a release from Oregon State Police, a 2005 Ford Explorer was traveling south on the highway when it was hit head-on by a 2017 GMC truck at about 3:30 a.m.
The truck driver — Justin Dice, 39, of Bend — was dead at the scene and the driver of the Explorer — Megan Handford, 19, of Bend — was taken by air ambulance to St. Charles Bend with life-threatening injuries. Handford is reported to have undergone surgery, according to OSP.
The drivers were the only occupants of the vehicles.
The investigation is ongoing, though speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors.
