Miami, FL : One dead following officer-involved crash in Miami early Monday, January 9, 2017

One person is dead following a crash involving a police officer in Miami.

Local news outlets report that the crash happened early Monday.

Authorities say an off-duty Miami-Dade police officer was driving his personal vehicle on his way to work when he collided with a pickup truck. The driver of that truck died, and his female passenger was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Officials have not released their identities.

Miami-Dade police Det. Alvaro Zabaleta says the officer involved, who has been on the force for less than a year, was released from the hospital after being treated for some minor injuries.

Zabaleta says the crash remains under investigation.
