Columbus, OH : Akron Pastor Melford J. Elliott Struck, killed by Another Vehicle on Interstate 71 in Madison County on Sunday morning, May 10, 2015

An Akron pastor died in a crash in central Ohio over Mother's Day weekend, Columbus media outlets report.

According to the Columbus Dispatch , Melford J. Elliott, 51, was driving southbound on I-71 in Madison County when his car went off the side of the road around 6:40 a.m. and hit a tunnel in the median.

Troopers told the Columbus Dispatch Elliott was thrown from the vehicle as it rolled. He landed in the northbound lanes of the highway where he was struck by another vehicle.

Elliott was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers said he was not wearing a seatbelt, the Columbus Dispatch reports.

According to newsnet5.com's media partner, the Akron Beacon Journal , Elliott served as pastor at Greater Bethel Baptist Church in Akron.
