Miami ,FL : Driver in serious condition after crash with semi on Friday afternoon ,May 8th 2015

An 18-year-old from New Madison was trapped in her car this afternoon after she apparently fell asleep behind the wheel and crashed into a semi.
Crews were called around 3:45 p.m. to the 4200 block of U.S. 36 west, which was shut down for more than two hours.
It took about 20 minutes to free Rachel Remencus from the wreckage. She was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital, where her condition wasn’t available.
Preliminary investigation shows that Remencus was headed west on U.S. 36 in a silver 2003 Chevrolet Impala when she drifted left of center and hit a 1999 Volvo semi driven by 51-year-old Robert Alderson of Richmond, Indiana, according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
Alderson, who was not hurt, tried to swerve to avoid the crash, but Remencus’ car struck the axle on the trailer. New Madison Fire, Liberty Twp. Fire and Tri-Village Rescue worked to free Remencus from the wreck.
The crash, which remains under investigation, may have been caused by the driver falling asleep, according to the sheriff’s office.
