TWIN FALLS, ID : Woman flown to Pocatello after I-84 crash on Monday, December 5th, 2016
A woman was flown to a Pocatello hospital Monday morning after she was trapped under her car that rolled in the median on Interstate 84.
The crash happened about 7:40 a.m. near milepost 202, just east of the Jerome and Minidoka county line, Idaho State Police Lt. Robert Rausch said.
The crash appeared to be the worst of several weather-related crashes and slide-offs around the Magic Valley as Sunday night’s rain and snow turned to ice as the weather dropped Monday morning. ISP reported “multiple slide-offs and crashes” as early as 2:20 a.m. Monday.
Details of the crash that sent the woman to the hospital were scarce Monday as ISP troopers were kept busy responding to a steady stream of minor-injury and property-damage crashes.
“I don’t know her condition or if there were others in the vehicle,” Rausch said Monday morning. “I was out responding to other crashes myself, but that’s what (was) reported to me.”
Another minor-injury crash on I-84 near Hazelton blocked a westbound lane of the interstate for several hours in the morning until about 9:45 a.m.
“Drivers are advised to plan extra travel time, and ensure their vehicles are winter-weather ready for travel,” ISP said in a statement Monday, advice that will continue to be important throughout the week with snow possible in the forecast over the next several days.
The Idaho Department of Transportation reported slick, snowy and windy conditions Monday morning on interstates and highways throughout the Magic Valley.
