Dade City, FL : 28-year-old man killed and four people hospitalized in a three-car crash on State Road 52, east of Ehren Cutoff on Saturday evening, March 25, 2017

A 28-year-old man was killed and four people hospitalized in a three-car crash Saturday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

About 6 p.m., Johnathon Michael Carmack of Port Richey was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer east on State Road 52, east of Ehren Cutoff, with one passenger, 28-year-old Katherine Cecilia Yager of Holiday.

A 2004 Lincoln SUV driven by Samuel D. Grimes Jr., 27, was headed west with five passengers, four of them 13 or younger, troopers said. Efraim Abramsohn, 70, was driving behind the SUV in a Mercedes-Benz E400 coupe.

The Blazer left the eastbound lanes and drove into oncoming traffic, hitting the left side of the SUV, according to the highway patrol. The SUV then flipped into a fence on the north shoulder of the highway while the Blazer kept going and hit the Mercedes-Benz. Both cars flipped and came to rest in the middle of the road, troopers said.

Carmack was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa and later died. Yager was taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Hudson with critical injuries.

Emergency responders rushed 13-year-old Julian Barger, a passenger in the SUV, to St. Joseph's Hospital with serious injuries. Abramsohn, the driver of the Mercedes-Benz, and his passenger, 58-year-old Leslie Croteau-Abramsohn, were both taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point with serious injuries.

Everyone else in the crash had minor injuries, the highway patrol said.
