Ithaca school bus driver faulted in crash with car on Route 13; no children injured

A school bus driver was at fault in an accident involving a car and an Ithaca City School District bus that backed up northbound traffic Thursday morning on Route 13 in Ithaca, police said.

Emergency workers were called at 8:32 a.m. to the area near Route 13 and Dey Street, near the Sciencenter, where the bus and a silver Nissan Altima collided.

There were 23 children on the bus, Ithaca Police Chief John Barber said. None of the students was injured, but Bangs Ambulance took the two occupants inside the Altima to Cayuga Medical Center for minor injuries, according to police. The students were picked up by a second bus and taken to their school.

The driver of the school bus was found to be at fault and was issued one traffic ticket for following too closely, police said. The driver was not named by police.

The Ithaca Fire Department and personnel from the Ithaca City School District assisted at the scene.
