Driver killed in Tacoma rollover crash in Washington
Excessive speed was a factor in a single-vehicle crash that killed the driver of the car Monday evening in Tacoma, the Washington State Patrol reports.State troopers and medics responded to the scene, on southbound Interstate 705 near 21st Street in Tacoma, at 7:10 p.m. Monday after receiving a report of a serious crash, said Trooper Guy Gill.When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found a black 2008 Audi lying on its top. The driver, a 43-year-old Tacoma man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released pending notification of next of kin.A preliminary investigation found that the Audi was heading south on I-705 and took the off-ramp to 21st Street, where it failed to make the turn and crossed the traffic island onto Highway 509.The car then continued across Highway 509 and crossed a second traffic island to the I-705 entrance ramp. The Audi then slammed into the jersey barrier and vaulted over it, landing on its top in the southbound lane of I-705.Emergency responders had to extricate the driver's body from the car after the crash.
