A northwestern Montana man has pleaded not guilty to vehicular homicide while under the influence for a July 2016 crash north of Kalispell that killed his passenger.

The Daily Inter Lake reports 21-year-old Dillon Johnson of Whitefish entered his plea Thursday in the death of 17-year-old Madison Duke. A trial has been set for in District Court in Kalispell.

Prosecutors say Johnson’s blood tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana use.

The Montana Highway Patrol said Johnson’s car went off U.S. Highway 93 on July 3, 2016. The driver corrected back onto the roadway and then over-corrected, causing the vehicle to roll at least four times.

Other motorists pulled Johnson and Duke from the vehicle as it caught fire.
