Marysville, CA : Car accident spurs search for three in Marysville on Thursday, 15th September 2016
A vehicle reported stolen in a carjacking was involved in a crash that sparked a Marysville manhunt, which lasted nearly two hours and ended in the arrest of three male suspects Thursday morning.
Initial reports indicate that the search started after police ran the license plate on a vehicle in a non-injury collision and found it had been reported stolen in a carjacking where the suspect had a handgun, Marysville Police Lt. Jason Garringer said.
The subjects in the vehicle fled the scene of the crash and two were detained immediately near Miners Square Park on Swezy Street between East 14th and East 15th streets in Marysville, Garringer said.
Marysville Police Department and the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department set up a perimeter around the block to the west of Miner Square Park and searched houses with canines. A California Highway Patrol helicopter circled above the scene for more than an hour.
The third subject was arrested with the help of a canine shortly after 10 a.m. in a shed in the backyard of a house on the 1400 block of Blue Street.
No weapon was found, Garringer said.
Marysville Joint Unified School District put each of its schools inside the Marysville city limits on lockdown and moved all students inside as a precaution, both for student safety and to help law enforcement, Superintendent Gay Todd said.
“All schools in Marysville proper were on lockdown until the Marysville Police Department had all three suspects in custody,” Todd said. “We do that as a precautionary measure and at no time were our students in any danger.”
