Opelika, AL : Man identified in fatal hit-and-run accident in Auburn on Sunday, November 13th 2016
A man found dead after being struck by a vehicle Sunday has been identified.
Dario F. Gomez-Lopez, 27, from Auburn, was identified with the assistance of the Lee County Coroner's Office, according to the Auburn Police Division.
Police and paramedics responded to a report of leaving the scene of an accident in which a pedestrian was struck by a car in the 1900 block of Opelika Road shortly after midnight. They found the body of Gomez-Lopez lying in the road.
"An investigation by the Auburn Police Division, including the examination of evidence from the scene as well as statements obtained from witnesses in the area, is underway," Police said in a press release. "The Auburn Police Division is utilizing the assistance of the State of Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences to identify the suspect(s) in this investigation. The preliminary investigation suggests an accident with contributing factors involved; the individual(s) responsible are encouraged to immediately contact the Auburn Police Division."
