Albany, OR : Two killed in three-vehicle crash on Highway 20 near Albany on Friday night, November 28, 2014
Authorities have identified the two people killed in a Friday evening crash on Highway 20 east of Goldfish Farm Road, just outside the Albany city limits.
Elizabeth M. Maye, 45, and Amanda J. Maye-Strawn, 42, both of St. Helens, Oregon, were killed in the three-vehicle crash, which occurred at about 6:25 p.m. Friday.
Both Maye and Maye-Strawn were in an eastbound 2013 Nissan Versa, which was either stopped or in the process of stopping to make a left-hand turn into a driveway, said Oregon State Police Sgt. James Halsey.
The Nissan was rear-ended by a 1998 Dodge pickup, driven by Isaiah Z. Kaneaster, 18, of Scio. The Nissan then was struck head-on by a 2003 Honda Odyssey, which was westbound. Both Maye and Maye-Strawn were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Kaneaster and his passenger were not injured, and Kaneaster cooperated with investigators. Authorities did not release the name of the passenger nor the names of the driver and passengers in the Honda Odyssey.
The passengers in the Odyssey were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, and the driver was not injured. Troopers believe all occupants of the three vehicles were wearing safety belts.
Highway 20 was closed for 2½ hours Friday night in both directions at Goldfish Farm Road
The case remains under investigation, but drugs or alcohol don’t appear to be factors.
“At this point in time, we don’t believe there’s any impairment at all,” Halsey said.
It was unclear whether weather was a factor, but there were downpours in the Albany area early Friday evening.
The Albany Fire Department, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation were assisting at the scene.
