Bakersfield, CA : Three dead in fatal wreck on Panama Lane on Thursday, March 2nd 2017
Three people died in a fatal wreck at Panama Lane and Comanche Drive about midnight Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
None of the names were released pending notification of relatives.
Officers determined a 32-year-old Bakersfield man driving a 2003 GMC vehicle was headed east on Panama at between 70 and 80 mph approaching the stop sign at Comanche where another car was stopped.
The GMC attempted to pass the stopped car and drove into the intersection where it collided into the left side of a 1997 Mercedes.
The impact flipped the Mercedes, killing both occupants, a 37-year-old male and 46-year-old female, both of Arvin.
The female was not wearing a safety belt.
The GMC went up an embankment and overturned into a drainage sump filled with water coming to rest on the driver side.
Alcohol appears to be a factor in the collision, according to the CHP.
