Norwalk, OH : Man dies after alcohol-related crash on Sunday, November, 19th 2017
A man died early Sunday morning after a single-vehicle crash in Seneca County’s Hopewell Township.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, said troopers with the Fremont post of the state Highway Patrol.
Troy J. Schmitz, 25, of Fostoria, was driving a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup truck south on County Road 7, south of Township Road 112, at 12:15 a.m. when the vehicle traveled off the left side of the road, down into a ditch and struck a utility pole, troopers said. The pickup overturned and came to rest on its top in the ditch.
Schmitz, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle, troopers said. Schmitz was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was transported to Tiffin Mercy Hospital morgue.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by Bascom Fire and EMS, John’s Towing and Recovery, the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office and the American Electric Power Company.
