A man is dead following a crash that shut down part of Interstate 77 in Huntersville Wednesday morning. The crash happened just after 8:30 a.m. on I-77 northbound near Exit 19, Hambright Road.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said a tractor trailer ran out of fuel and was stopped in the center lane of the interstate. A 26-year-old man from Charlotte, later identified as Robert Charles Carmone, was traveling northbound at 65 miles per hour when he hit the truck.

Officials believe Carmone didn't brake and was killed on impact.
