Troopers identified a husband and wife killed in a car crash in Volusia County on Friday.

Scott Ellis, 51, and Sherry Ellis, 43, were both passengers in a Toyota struck by a driver who apparently lost control of his car, Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes said.

Samuel James, 20, of Orange City, was driving a 2002 Hyundai Sonata east on International Speedway Boulevard, near Brick Road, at about 4:35 p.m. Friday, Montes said.

Troopers do not know why he lost control and crossed the median, hitting the westbound Toyota head-on.
