OTTAWA, OH : Teen hospitalized in crash with Putnam County sheriff’s cruiser on Saturday, January 28th 2017
A teenager was hospitalized Saturday evening after a two-vehicle crashing involving a Putnam County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
The Lima post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported the two-vehicle crash occurred near mile post 10 on state Route 15 in Greensburg Township in Putnam County shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday.
According to the report, Tygan Nelson, 18, of Continental, was driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT west of state Route 15 when she lost control of the vehicle and traveled into the eastbound lane. She was struck by a 2014 Chevrolet Impala cruiser operated by Deputy Randy Weller, 52, of Ottawa.Nelson was trapped in the vehicle and freed mechanically. She was taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Her condition was unavailable late Monday. The highway was closed for about 90 minutes.
Alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash, the patrol reported. Both drivers were using safety belts.
