GLENMOOR, OH : Glenmoor family scared but safe after truck crashes nearby on Thursday, September 14, 2017
A mother and her two young children escaped injury Thursday afternoon when a pickup truck crashed into a wall outside her new home on Irish Ridge Road just as she was pulling into the driveway.
The 2003 GMC truck, driven by William S. White, 58, Summerset Road, East Liverpool, was westbound on Irish Ridge when it went out of control, went off the right side, traveled through a yard, then struck a wooden fence, cement patio furniture and, finally, a brick wall outside the home of Matt and Courtney Beatty.
Mrs. Beatty, 23, said she and her two children, ages 4 and 1 1/2, had just pulled into the driveway of the house when the truck struck the wall, throwing pieces of the concrete furniture into her 2017 GMC Terrain.
She said her son had already crawled into the front seat of the vehicle and was preparing to get out when the crash occurred, saying she was glad none of them had exited the vehicle before the truck sent debris flying toward them.
According to Beatty, the truck was still running, with White’s foot on the accelerator, after the impact.
White told St. Clair Township officers he blacked out and does not remember any of the accident. He was transported by North Star Critical Care ambulance to East Liverpool City Hospital.
The house is owned by Scott Barrett, St. Clair Township road foreman, who was on the scene with police and other emergency personnel. Mrs. Beatty said she and her husband are purchasing the home from Barrett and are just moving in.
Barrett said pillars supporting a porch had been pushed in by the impact, with the roof possibly damaged, but said the home is safe to live in.
Police said White was wearing a seat belt.
The truck was moved from its landing point with heavy equipment and Calcutta Towing, which towed it from the scene.
