A Luling man died Friday (April 24) afternoon after losing control of his car on Louisiana 3127 in St. James Parish, Louisiana State Police officials said. After being struck by an oncoming car, the man, Erskine Webster, 19, was pronounced dead on the scene by the St. James Parish Coroner's Office.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time, State Police said, though it is not known whether either of them was impaired at the time of the crash.
State Police said they began investigating the crash at around 5:30 p.m. Friday. The investigation revealed that Erskine, driving a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro, was attempting to pass several vehicles in the rain when his vehicle began to spin clockwise.
At the same time, a 2010 Dodge Ram, driven by Anthony Abadie, 51, of Reserve, was approaching the Camaro while traveling north on Louisiana 3127. The Ram struck the Camaro on the driver's side door, killing Webster. Abadie was later taken to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital with moderate injuries, State Police said.
Routine toxicology tests are pending for Webster. Test results for blood taken from Abadie are still pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
