Troy, OH : High-speed chase ends in a crash on early Tuesday morning August 5th 2014
Police have identified 38-year-old Brian L. Curry as the suspect in a high-speed chase that ended in a crash that sent Curry and another motorist to the hospital.
Curry, a Dayton resident, is being held in Miami County Jail for allegedly having a weapon while under disability, trafficking cocaine, improperly handling a firearm in a vehicle, failure to comply with police and driving under suspension.
Troy police attempted to pull over a dark SUV for a traffic violation just before 3 a.m. Tuesday morning when the driver let out his female passenger and then fled, heading south on Interstate 75. Speeds reportedly reached nearly 100 mph.
Officers used stop sticks to try to end the pursuit near the U.S. 40 exit on I-75 southbound. The driver exited the highway at Benchwood Road before crashing into a pickup truck, briefly trapping the driver of that truck in his vehicle. That victim was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
After the crash, the fleeing suspect jumped out of the SUV and took off on foot. He attempted to hide in some tall weeds about 100 yards from the crash site. He was located by Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers and Vandalia police officers and taken into custody.
Police said Curry complained of neck pain and was taken to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment before being transported to Miami County Jail. He was treated for injuries to his hand and back.
Troy police towed the vehicle he was driving and found suspected stolen credit cards, crack cocaine, two hand guns and at least four clips of ammo inside.
