Cookeville man dies in cycle crash in Tennessee
A Cookeville man was killed Tuesday while riding a motorcycle along Highway 53 in Jackson County.Leroy S. Pence, 70, of Dyer Creek Road, Cookeville, was fatally injured when another vehicle turned into the path of his motorcycle around 12:37 p.m. yesterday.According to Tennessee Highway Patrol reports, Daniel E. Smith, 29, of Gainesboro, was driving a 2007 Chevy truck along Highway 53 when he made a left turn into a gas station, crossing Pence’s path.Pence’s motorcycle struck the mid passenger side of the truck.THP reports indicate that Pence was wearing a helmet.Troopers Mark Miller and Willie Allison were on the scene along with Lt. David Allred.Pence is the second Cookeville resident to be killed in a motorcycle crash in only a few days.Saturday, Hugh Wesley Kennen, Jr, 45, of Cookeville, was fatally injured while riding a motorcycle in Overton County.Funeral services for Kennen have been set for Friday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. at Presley Funeral Home in Cookeville.
