Cherry Hill, N.J : Man dies, woman flees, after car crash in Pemberton Township on Friday, November 11, 2016
A local motorist died and his passenger fled after a car hit two trees and overturned here, police said Monday.
Peter A. Burnett, 41, was fatally injured when his 2005 BMW 325i veered off westbound Junction Road around 10:45 p.m. Friday, Pemberton Township police said.
It was the second deadly crash in recent months at the curve where Junction Road runs into Mount Misery Road.
Police said Burnett's vehicle lost control at the bend and struck a tree. The car flipped on its side, hit another tree and spun back onto the road.
Burnett, a resident of the 2200 block of Hanover Boulevard in Browns Mills, was taken to an area hospital where he died from his injuries.
Police said a 27-year-old female passenger "fled the scene," but was taken to a hospital by a third party for treatment of minor injuries.
The curving intersection claimed another life on Sept. 24, when a 23-year-old driver lost control of her vehicle and struck a tree. Samantha Wenzel, who lived in the township's New Lisbon section, also was driving west on Junction Road when the accident occurred around 1 a.m., police said.
Friday's accident is under investigation.
