BUTTE COUNTY, CA : 2 dead, 3 injured after crash on Highway 149 just south of Highway 99 in Butte County on Sunday, 6th August 2023

All northbound Highway 149 lanes, just south of Highway 99, near Openshaw Rd. have been reopened after a two-car, head-on crash.

One of the cars was traveling southbound on Highway 149 from Highway 99 when, for unknown reasons, it crossed over the center median and hit a truck traveling northbound. One of the cars caught fire, but CAL FIRE said it has been contained.

The driver and passenger in the truck died, and the driver and two passengers in the car were taken to the hospital with major injuries.

All northbound Highway 149 lanes at Openshaw Rd. were closed from around 2:17 p.m. to 5:50 p.m.
