Spring Hill, FL : 87-year-old man dies in collision involving five vehicles in Spring Hill on Friday morning, April 8, 2016

An 87-year-old Spring Hill man died Friday morning when the 1996 Lincoln Town Car he was driving rear-ended another car, causing a chain-reaction collision involving five vehicles, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The Highway Patrol did not immediately identify the man, pending notification of his family.

The man was driving north on Mariner Boulevard, approaching a red traffic signal at Landover Boulevard, about 8:50 a.m. when for unknown reasons he failed to stop, colliding with a 2016 Mazda6, the FHP reported. The impact then caused damage to three other vehicles in front of the Mazda. The drivers of those vehicles suffered only minor injuries.

The 87-year-old driver was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries, the FHP report stated.
