Sarasota County, FL : Driver cited after fiery truck crash closes I-75 in Sarasota Tuesday morning, April 12, 2016

A truck driver was cited after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed this morning on Interstate 75, the Florida Highway Patrol says. The crash backed up traffic on the highway for hours.

According to an FHP release, Edilberto Armas Caceres, 55, of Sarasota was driving an International truck south in the center lane of I-75 south of Fruitville Road at about 8 a.m. when he began to move into the right lane while another vehicle was overtaking him on the right.

Caceres attempted to change back into the center lane, FHP reports, and overcorrected, losing control of the truck, which overturned in the right lane and west shoulder and lost its cargo.

The truck caught fire after the driver escaped without injury, FHP says.

Caceres was cited with careless driving.

Southbound traffic was still congested at 12:30 p.m.

It is at least the third serious I-75 crash in Sarasota County in the last week.
