Conroe, TX : Mother, baby killed, toddler critically injured in accident on FM 1484 in Conroe on Saturday, September 17, 2016

A two-year-old boy was critically injured Saturday in an accident that claimed the life of his mother and younger brother on FM 1484 in Conroe, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The toddler, who had been trapped in the SUV driven by his mother, was transported to a Houston hospital from Memorial Herman The Woodlands where he was sent following the two-car accidnet that injured two others.
The identities of those in the accident were not released before press time.

Fire and EMS crews responded to the scene after dispatchers received multiple 911 calls at 3:11 p.m. for a major accident east of Rose Road.

The boy’s mother and 11-month-old brother were pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the second car survived and was transported with minor injuries to Conroe Regional Hospital.

The mother of the boy was eastbound on FM 1484, when she is believe to have lost control, overcorrected and collided head-on with the other car in the westbound lane, according to DPS who is still investigating.
Several cars waited for more than two hours while the accident was investigated and cleared by DPS officials.
Martha Strozier, 57, has lived in the area for 38 years. While she did not know what caused Saturday’s accident near her house, she said that particular area of FM 1484 has a “dangerous hill” that becomes a blind spot. There have been other accidents there she added.

She said DPS has already posted warning signs, lights and recently topped off another part of the road near the scene that killed another person this year.

Strozier has noticed a speeding issue on the road where some drivers “treat the rural road like Interstate 45”.

“It’s really sad for anybody to get killed,” Strozier said. “... The hill is dangerous ... The highway department seems like they have done everything they can. I don’t know what else they can do.”
