UNION CO., OH : U.S. 33 reopens in Union County after fatal crash on Wednesday, November 30th 2016
U.S. 33 has reopened between U.S. 42 and Post Road after a fatal crash, Wednesday.
According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, as of 7pm Wednesday, they expect the road to be closed for another eight to nine hours.
According to the Ohio State highway Patrol, a woman, now identified as Kimberly Mintier, driving east on U.S. 33 went off the road, crossed the median and struck a tanker truck head-on. The truck, driven by Jerry Weaver, then jackknifed, striking a Cadillac and pushing Mintier’s vehicle into the median. The truck overturned, while the driver of the Cadillac was able to safely pull to the side of the road.
Mintier was pronounced dead at the scene. Weaver was treated at the scene. The driver of the Cadillac, now identified as James Hollen, was not injured.
Weaver and Hollen were both wearing seatbelts, while Mintier reportedly was not.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol say the crash is under investigation, but alcohol is suspected to be a factor.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the delay in reopening the road is due to hazardous materials that need to be cleaned up from the truck.
