Wichita, KS : Newton man killed in collision on U.S. 50 on Monday, 9th April 2018
A Newton man was killed when his car collided with a semi on U.S. 50 on the south edge of Newton Monday afternoon, authorities said.
Orville Schmidt, 67, was driving east on U.S. 50 shortly before 3 p.m. Monday when his car drifted across the center line and collided with a Freightliner semi just west of South Meridian, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
Schmidt was taken to Via Christi Hospital-St. Francis in Wichita,, where he died. A passenger in his car, 75-year-old Nancy Schmidt, was also taken to St. Francis for treatment. She was no longer a patient at the hospital as of Tuesday night.
The driver of the semi was not injured in the collision, according to the highway patrol.
