Cedar City, UT : Colorado man died and another person injured in a rollover crash on I-15 near Cedar City on Friday, Nov 27, 2015
A Colorado man was killed, his female passenger hospitalized following a rollover on Interstate 15, four miles north of Cedar City, Friday, the Utah Highway Patrol reported.
UHP trooper Adam Gibbs said William J. Wyman of Boulder was pronounced dead at the scene — the pickup Wyman was driving hit a patch of black ice near mile-marker 65.
“He wasn’t speeding but he was going too fast for the conditions,” Gibbs said. “We estimated he was going 65 mph but with ice that was already on the road, and then the new snow and the northern winds, it was really slick for a few hours.”
According to a UHP news release, the crash happened at approximately 5:38 p.m.
Wyman was driving a 2002 Toyota Tacoma traveling northbound on I-15.
The pickup hit black ice and lost control, sliding off the right shoulder and rolling twice, according to the news release.
“The driver was ejected from the vehicle and landed approximately 30 feet away,” the release states.
Gibbs said a UHP trooper took the Wyman’s passenger to Cedar City Hospital.
Her injuries were not extensive as a result of her wearing her seatbelt, Gibbs said.
“She had a few cuts and bruises,” he said.
