INDIANAPOLIS, IN : State trooper from Yorktown badly hurt in crash on Saturday, 10th August 2019

An Indiana State Police trooper from Yorktown was critically injured Saturday in a traffic accident on I-465.

According to an ISP release, Phillip “Andy” Byers was off-duty and riding his personally owned motorcycle about 8:30 a.m. when the accident took place near the 37-mile marker, just south of Interstate 69.

Investigators said Byers was traveling southbound in the center line of the interstate when another southbound vehicle struck his motorcycle, which then struck the rear of a semi tractor.Byers was wearing a helmet, but suffered severe injuries, the release said. He was taken to an Indianapolis hospital.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, although authorities said they had no reason to believe impaired driving was a factor.
