Hot Springs, AR : Pursuit ends in fatal wreck on Saturday, July 1, 2017
A pursuit by a Garland County sheriff's deputy northwest of Hot Springs ended when the driver of the other car was killed in a single-vehicle wreck at around noon Saturday.
The name of the driver, a male, was not released Saturday. Garland County sheriff's Capt. Gary Ashcraft said the male was driving a car that was being pursued on Cedarglade Road by a sheriff's deputy who also was not identified. There were apparently no passengers in the car.
The wreck shut down the roadway for more than an hour, and westbound traffic was redirected south onto Turkey Trot Lane, which intersects Cedarglade just east of where the wreck occurred.
Ashcraft said the incident began when a report of a "suspicious vehicle" was called into the department. The deputy attempted a traffic stop after the vehicle pulled out of a driveway. The driver of the vehicle then fled west onto Cedarglade Road.
The driver lost control in the 1800 block of Cedarglade Road and hit a culvert, flipping onto the road on its roof, according to Ashcraft.
The sheriff's department, including its K-9 and Criminal Investigation Division, Arkansas State Police, Piney Fire Department, LifeNet, Garland County Coroner Stuart Smedley and Xtreme Towing & Recovery responded to the scene.
The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by Smedley.
Ashcraft said that the sheriff's department is investigating the circumstances that led up to the wreck, while the Arkansas State Police is investigating the wreck itself.
