Iva ,SC : Car crashes into Anderson Co. church and driver identified on Wednesday morning ,July 1st 2015

Rescue crews were called to Iva Church of God on Highway 81 Wednesday morning after a car crashed into the church building.


Anderson County Fire Chief Jimmy Sutherland said the car crashed into a wall at the church around 9:30 a.m.
Crews arrived to find a man in the car, alive and alert.

The Town of Iva said Thomas Gassaway, 57, was driving a 2003 Ford Crown Vic. northbound on Highway 81 when the vehicle crossed the center line and hit the church.

Sutherland said it took more than an hour to free Gassaway from the car. He was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital just after 11 a.m.
according to FOX Carolina's crew at the scene.
