Douglas, WY : Driver cited in fatal crash on August 24, 2016
A citation for following too close has been issued to the driver involved in the Aug. 24 crash that claimed the life of 75-year-old Glenrock resident Leoda Cain, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
Distracted driving as the result of cell phone use is being investigated as a contributing factor to the crash, and additional potential charges are pending, according to the same press release.
Cain was stopped in a construction zone on the Old Glenrock Highway, US 20/26, when she was rear-ended by 19-year-old Glenrock resident Cassandra Wickett. This started a chain reaction of rear-end collisions involving three other vehicles that were also stopped in the construction zone, according to the WHP.
Both Cain and Wickett were transported to Wyoming Medical Center (WMC). Wickett was treated and released; however, Cain succumbed to her injuries on Aug. 28, as reported by WHP. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
The other five occupants involved in the crash were either uninjured or transported to Wyoming Medical Center. They have been treated and released, according to WHP.
