Crystal River, FL : None hospitalized after rollover crash near Sugarmill Woods on Wednesday, 4th April 2018
Keith Maulbeck said he couldn’t do much when his pickup truck overturned after being T-boned by a car Wednesday morning on a roadway in southwest Citrus County.
“I just went along for the ride,” the 63-year-old Homosassa man said as he was picking up debris and contents from his damaged Chevy Silverado on the grass median of U.S. 98 near Oak Village Boulevard.
According to Florida Highway Patrol trooper Tod Cloud, Maulbeck was driving west on U.S. 98, approaching Oak Village Boulevard.
Shirley Barbara Payne, 85, of Homosassa, was traveling down Oak Village Boulevard in a red Ford Focus and continued to drive onto U.S. 98 without yielding to oncoming traffic, Cloud said.
“I saw her start to pull out and I tried to swerve out the way,” Maulbeck said about trying to avoid Payne’s car, which struck the passenger side of Maulbeck’s truck.
His truck rolled over multiple times before coming to rest upright on the grass median of U.S. 98.
“Thankfully, he had his seatbelt on and she did, too,” Cloud said about the drivers, who received minor injuries and refused hospital transport.
Maulbeck’s wife, Maggie, who drove to the crash scene after getting a call from her husband, said she’s thankful both he and Payne are OK.
“Thank God you’re right here talking to me,” she told her husband.
Payne, who didn’t remember what happened, was cited with failing to yield to traffic at a stop sign, according to the trooper.
