Police are looking for a black, small to midsize SUV with rear-end damage in connection with a hit-and-run crash Thursday night that killed a motorcycle rider, officials said.

Officers at about 11 p.m. Thursday were called to the area of 10 Mile and Dale Avenue near Hayes, police said. They saw an injured man and a damaged motorcycle in the roadway.

Medics transported the man to a hospital where he died from his injuries, according to authorities.

Police identify the man as Irvin Smith, 45, of Warren.

According to a preliminary investigation, Smith was westbound on 10 Mile before the crash.
