Staunton, VA : Man injured in wreck on Va. 608 outside of Fishersville on Thursday evening, September 29, 2016

A man traveling north on Va. 608 outside of Fishersville was injured Thursday evening when he wrecked his moped off the side of the road, according to Virginia State Police.

The driver's helmet flew off and was found in an adjacent field, leading officer T.L. Johnson to speculate he may have suffered possible head trauma. He was taken to Augusta Health for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and further evaluation but will be moved to University of Virginia Medical Center if the injuries are more serious and he requires treatment at the trauma center there, according to police.

After receiving treatment, the driver was then arrested for DUI, Virginia State Police Public Relations Director Corinne Geller said. He was earlier conscious at the scene, the 1600 block of the road also known as Long Meadow Road, and had told police he had been drinking, Johnson said.

Further information on the identity of the adult male driver was unavailable at the scene. We will update the story once more information is available.
