Plankinton, S.D : Two injured in I-90 crash near Plankinton on Saturday afternoon, April 1, 2017
Two people sustained injuries in a one-vehicle rollover crash Saturday afternoon near Plankinton.
A 55-year-old male driver received serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Mitchell's Avera Queen of Peace hospital after he lost control of the vehicle he was driving on Interstate 90, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
The man, whose name is not available but is not a South Dakota resident, was driving eastbound on I-90. At approximately 12:26 p.m., his vehicle crossed both eastbound lanes, entered the median, rolled and came to rest in the westbound passing lane about 2 ½ miles west of Plankinton. Officials said the driver had to be extricated from the vehicle, a 1996 Jeep Cherokee.
A 47-year-old female passenger sustained minor injuries. She was also transported to the hospital in Mitchell.
Both people were wearing a seat belt and there were no citations issued.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol investigated the scene. Aurora County Sheriff's Office, Plankinton Fire and Rescue and Plankinton Ambulance also responded.
