Springfield, MO : Barry County deputy dies after car crash with school bus on Thursday morning, April 6, 2017

A Barry County deputy was responding to a call for service Thursday morning when a school bus turned in front of his SUV, causing a fatal crash on Missouri 37 south of Washburn, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

An online crash report says the school bus, which did not have any children on board, was headed east on Farm Road 1060 and failed to yield to the SUV.

The crash occurred at 10:49 a.m., the report said, and the driver of the SUV, Carl T. Cosper, 56, was pronounced dead at a Cassville hospital.

Cosper, of Pineville, was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, the report said.

The driver of the Washburn School District bus, William D. Reeves, a 60-year-old man from Seligman, was uninjured.
